All Audi S4 B8 generation variants are powered by 3.0-liter (2995 cm3 | 182.77 cu. in.) V6 supercharged petrol engines.

Acceleration capabilities of Audi S4 highly depend on the variant, as the vehicles have been getting faster with every new generation introduced. Audi S4 cars go from 0 to 100 km/h in between 4.7 and 8.6 seconds (0 to 60 mph: between 4.5 and 8.2 seconds). The fastest in the model range is the 2016 Audi S4 (B9) 3.0 TFSI V6 (354 Hp) quattro Tiptronic and the slowest - 1991 Audi S4 Avant (4A,C4) 2.2i 20V Turbo (230 Hp) quattro Automatic.

Being a high performance version of the A4, Audi S4 offers some considerable power. 2018 variants are equipped with 3-liter turbocharged V6 engines that are able to produce 347 Hp and 350 Hp, for diesel and petrol options, respectively.

The B8 Audi S4 generation is the only one in the model range to use superchagers. B8 generation vehicles are equipped with 3.0-liter supercharged V6 petrol engines, able to produce 333 Hp and 440 Nm of torque.

The most recent Audi S4 vehicles are currently the 2019 facelifted B9 generation variants. Both the Avant and regular sedan options come with 8-speed automatic transmissions, no manuals available.

All Audi S4 vehicles are equipped with Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system. No rear-wheel-drive options are available.

While Audi S4 is, indeed, being developed with emphasis on performance, it is not considered a sports car, taking into consideration body styles available for the model.
