Mazda CX-5 vehicles have almost identical dimensions in all model years, first generation variants being 4555 mm (179.33 in.) long, 1840 mm (72.44 in.) wide, and 1710 mm (67.32 in.) tall and second generation ones - 4550 mm (179.13 in.) in length, 1841 mm (72.48 in.) in width, and 1680 mm (66.14 in.) in height.

Ground clearance of Mazda CX-5 is 211 mm (8.3 in.) or 216 mm (8.5 in.), depending on the variant.

Three engine size options are available in the second generation Mazda CX-5 range – two petrol and one diesel:
- 2.0-liter (1998 cm3 | 121.93 cu. in.) SKYACTIV-G petrol engine, with two output options – 160 and 165 Hp;
- 2.5-liter (2488 cm3 | 151.83 cu. in.) SKYACTIV-G petrol engine, with four output options – 188, 194, 228, and 250 Hp;
- 2.2-liter (2191 cm3 | 133.7 cu. in.) SKYACTIV-D diesel engine, with three output options – 150, 175, and 184 Hp.

Fuel efficiency varies, generally being low for both petrol and diesel vehicles. Petrol variants have fuel economy figures of between 6 l/ 100 km (39.2 mpg) and 7.3 l/ 100 km (32.22 mpg), while diesel ones – between 4.6 l/ 100 km (51.13 mpg) and 5.8 l/ 100 km (40.55 mpg).

All-wheel-drive options are available in each Mazda CX-5 generation to ensure better performance in a wider variety of conditions.
