Skoda Octavia 2020 - better than ever before

While the whole world is focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, Skoda fully revealed its latest model - New Octavia. The flagship of the Czech carmaker is coming redesigned and redeveloped combining spaciousness, upgraded safety and modern technologies. The fourth generation of Octavia is a way to celebrate the model's 60th-anniversary offering exceptional comfort and efficiency.

Exterior redesign

The new Octavia is bigger and more masculine than ever before. Even dough the previous generation of the model was quite successful, the expectations of the manufacturer are the new-gen car to obtain even more interest from the customers. The hatchback version of the new Octavia is now 19mm longer, while the estate is 22mm longer than its predecessor. In both variants, width is increased by 15 mm. Even though the boot of estate has been largest in the segment in the fourth-gen vehicle it even larger. Adding 30l more space now the luggage compartment has a volume of 640l. The hatchback version has also wider boot space- now it is 600l, which is 10l more than in the previous-gen of the vehicle. The front fascia amazes with sharp, narrow headlights. They feature LED technology for low and high beam, and as well as for daytime lights. this modern technology is also implemented for brake fog and taillights. The roof of both variants of new Octavia is redesigned. While in estate version lowered roof rails underline the elongated silhouette of the model, the hatch resembles the look of a coupe automobile. Newly designed 19-inch alloys emphasize the powerful appearance of the new Octavia in both of its variants. The exterior palette has also what to offer - Crystal Black, Lava Blue and Titan Blue have been added to the paint range.

The fourth-gen Octavia comes with a 2-spoke steering wheel with an option for heating. In the list of additional equipment is the multifunctional variant o of the steering wheel with newly developed control buttons, scrollers and wings, allowing to operate up to 14 different features of the modern vehicle. The dashboard impresses with a new modular design. It now divided to different levels and features wide free-standing central display. The extraordinary elegance of new Octavia is implemented in the interior with an uncluttered central console with stylish chrome details. The high-quality of the used materials strengthens the feel for luxuriousness in the next-gen of the Skoda's flagship. As an option, Ergo seats with electric massage function can be ordered depending on the customer's demands. The optional head-up display can provide all of the main car figures and information directly on the windshield in front of the driver's sight. another debuting technology for Skoda is the tri-zone climatronic system. Some useful features like electric side windows, electromechanical parking brake are included in the list of standard equipment.   

Power units and innovations

For the very first time, the Octavia includes two plug-in hybrids in its line-up. These are modifications Octavia iV and Octavia vRS iV. The first one features a 1.4 TSI petrol engine paired with an electric motor to deliver a system maximum output of 204 pS. The high-voltage lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 37 Ah and ensures 13kWh of energy. It can provide to Octavia iV a fully-electric range of 60km in WLTP. Some of the other petrol engine modifications offer optimised versions with mild hybrid technology implemented more efficient driving. The diesel engines of the new Octavia line-up are also reworked and now emits up to 80% less NO2. The range of different powertrains for the updated model of Skoda offers power output varying from 110 PS to 204 PS. The 2.0TDI EVO diesel power unit features a new "twin dosing" exhaust gas treatment, where the AdBlue is specifically injected in front of the two catalytic converters. Dynamic Chasis Control is combined with Driving Mode Select allows the driver to change some specific parameters of the vehicle to provide the perfect conditions for each style of driving. For example suspension, damping, steering and DSG operation can be adjusted depending on the selected Drive Mode and driver preferences.

Fourth gen of Skoda Octavia provides a choice for the infotainment system of the car - the screens available as an option varies in their dimensions from 8.25 inches to 10 inches. Some of them offer voice control functionality via Laura Skoda Digital Assistant. The top-trim infotainment configuration implements an ultra-modern Columbus system with excellent zooming options for the navigation system. This function is available via a newly developed slider below the display and it can also control the volume level. Skoda enables non-stop internet access for the new Octavia thanks to the built-in eSIM. This allows Skoda to Connect Mobile online services. eCall feature, remote vehicle access and infotainment system updates. The modern vehicle offers a plethora of USB_C ports - there are a total of 5 ports in the car, as some smartphones can be easily charged using the optional Phone Box. The long list of optional equipment is full of interesting and innovative features. One of the impressive add-ons is the Sleep package for the rear seats including retractable sun blinds for the windows. The well-known hidden umbrella in the front door storage compartment can be changed with a snow brush from now on.  The boot space can be optionally equipped with automatically retractable load cover.

Although being one of the most popular and successful models in Skoda line-up, the Czech carmaker decided to redesigns and to make even more attractive its flagship model. The manufacturer had plans to make a great debut of the fourth generation of Octavia during the Geneva International Motor Show, but unfortunately, this failed to happen. Despite the global fear of the dangerous Coronavirus, Skoda once again shows its endless hope for better days with their extraordinary beautiful and elegant Octavia 2020.
