Hyundai has recently announced that it’s engineering department is working on a brand new transmission system that would be able to make a decision on its own, based only on the data received from the car’s systems.

The whole process of the smart system is based upon two newly-developed systems – an Information and Communication technology connected Shift System and a Transmission Unit Control. The latter analyses all the data received through the car’s radar and cameras as well as information from the automobile’s navigation ( like live traffic information, road conditions, curves’angles, etc.) and then transmits it to the ICT shift system.

This way the implemented artificial intelligence can determine the best scenario for the gear shift. What’s important to note is that during the multitude of road tests applied to the technology in real road conditions, the innovative ICT system reduces both the gear usage with up to 41% and brake application with a total of 11 %.

This way, it not only optimizes fuel consumption but also significantly extends the brake’s life expectancy.

If the new system proves to be successful, Hyundai plans to expand its capabilities by implementing an algorithm that will enable Artificial Intelligence to work in synchrony with smart traffic lights systems across various globes. Also, the current tech development will be implemented in both Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
