What engine is in a Porsche 944?

The model 944 hits the market in 1982. The new model line starts with a 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder engine developed by Porsche. It initially developed 163 hp; a catalytic converter version with 150 hp was introduced as of MY 86. The engine with catalytic converter was tuned in MY 1988, which increased the power to 160 hp. For the last model year (1989), the displacement was increased to 2.7 litres and the power grew to 165 hp. The 944 S model was equipped with a four-valve engine, which developed up to 190 hp. In model year 1989, the S2 model replaced the 944 S. It had the more muscular body, and a 3.0-litre four-valve engine, generating 211 hp and brought the successor to the S model to a performance level that almost matched that of the Turbo model.
